Meet "Kalashree Gayatri Deka"
A distinguished disciple of the late Padma Bhushan awardee, Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan, and Smt. Anuradha Venkataraman.
With 23 years of dedicated training in Bharatanatyam and 15 years of professional experience, she stands as a beacon of excellence in this art form. A Doordarshan-graded artiste, her journey commenced under the guidance of Ms. Anuradha Venkataraman, herself a disciple of Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan, culminating in her maiden solo performance (Arangetram) in 2008.
Academically, Gayatri holds double graduate degrees, one in Botany (Hons.) from Delhi University and another in Performing Art from Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. She served as a faculty member at her guru’s institute, Ganesa Natyalaya, from 2011 to 2022 and also contributed her expertise at Le Rythme Academy of Music and Dance, founded by the late Rini Mukherjee, from 2016 to 2022.
Gayatri’s passion for teaching led her to establish her own academy, Natyam School of Dance, in October 2021. Her commitment to passing on the knowledge she has gained has been the driving force behind her academy’s mission.
As a performer, Gayatri has showcased her talent in solos, duets, and groups in over 100 performances since 2008. Her artistry has graced both national and international stages, with appearances in cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Tirupati, Vishakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Madurai, Karur, Mahabalipuram, Gwalior, Guwahati, Kolkata, Rajgir, and beyond. Her global footprint includes performances in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nairobi, Budapest, Krishna Valley, Alsoors, Debrecen, Miskolc, and Krakow.

Bharatanatyam Choreography, Workshops & Lectures
Apart from her accomplishments as a performer and teacher, Gayatri has conducted and choreographed numerous annual functions for schools and academies, organized workshops, and delivered lecture demonstrations in collaboration with SPIC MACAY. Her leadership qualities shone through as the president of her college dance society, and she clinched victory in many collegiate dance competitions.
Gayatri’s versatility as a dancer is showcased through her leading roles in ballets choreographed by her guru, such as “Namamey Gange” as Ganga and “Ganga to Kaveri” by Churchill Pandian
She has donned various characters in dance dramas, including Vishnu and its avatars in Dashavtar, asura, Indra Dev, Hiranya Kashyap, Durga, snake, and Sakhi (in Budha). Her creative talents extend to choreographing and directing productions like “The Incredible India” under the banner of Le Rythme.
Gayatri Deka’s dedication to the art of Bharatanatyam, her extensive training, remarkable performances, and contributions as a teacher have solidified her position as a renowned exponent of this classical dance form.
